Koa is 7lb 11oz.

Koa is taking the bottles. He is doing good. He is taking all his meds with his milk.
Koa had a busy day. This morning they did a chest x-ray and it looked normal for Koa. Then he had a hearing screen which he passed. Then they did a head ultra sound we are still waiting for the results.
Other than that he is doing good.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.

Just been busy.

Koa is doing good. I am just trying to do all the feeds by bottle. Its getting there. You can tell that he is very sleepy after awhile. But I am pushing him if not he wont eat much. Its funny cause he only eats for me,dad and certain nurses. He is gaining weight. So we are very happy about that. Nothing new is going on other than the feedings.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for giving us Koa.

Koa is continuing to get better

Koa weighed 7 pounds and 8 ounces last night and is eating good. The doctors are saying that Koa will probably be home next week if things continue the way that they are now. So we are just hoping that Koa will continue to gain weight and eat good.
Thank you all for your prayers and support.
Thank you God for watching over Koa.
We love you all.

Koa is feeling a lot better.

Koa is so happy and wide a wake. He is up for about five to six hours. And then he sleeps for a couple hours. Then wide a wake again. He is too funny. He holds his head up looking around. Its cute.
We are just trying to get Koa to eat all of his food out of a bottle. I think we are getting there but slowly but surely.
Other than that he is doing good.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for Koa and giving us hope.

Koa's blood cultures came back negative..

Yes we are all happy that Koa's blood cultures came back negative. They are going to continue the antibiotic for another 5 days. The only problem with that is keeping an IV in. But it will work out.
Koa slept a lot today but I think he was recouping from the last two days. When he woke up he was wide awake and ready to play. He is doing good with his feedings. We just have to work with him a lot.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for helping Koa fight this infection.

Koa had another long day

I fed Koa today 2 times he did pretty good. But I think that Courtnie has the magic touch cause when she fed him he took all of the bottle. I am so proud of them it is cool watching Courtnie feed Koa. Koa was up for a while today looking around. Courtnie's mom and sister Mandi were here today so Koa was able to see them. Also Leah and Brandon came in and saw Koa but he was sleeping most of that time. But after all of the fun we found out that Koa needed to have blood drawn to see if the infection is still there. So this is where Koa had it rough. Because of Koa having had so many IVs in the past his veins are harder to draw blood from. So with the help of a couple of very good nurses and a long time of looking for a good vein they finely drew the blood from him to send to the lab to be cultured. Of coarse Koa didn't like that at all. But he calmed right down when I held him and put him to sleep. Koa gained 94 grams today so we are hoping that he will continue to grow and gain weight. Because he is only weighing 7 pounds 1 ounce because he has been loosing weight for the last few days.
We thank you all for all of the prayers and support.
Thank you God for watching over Koa and for every thing that we have been given.
We love you all

Koa had a big day

One of the doctors thought that the infection could have came from a urinary track infection. So they wanted to do a ultra sound of his bladder and stuff. To make sure that he didn't have something called reflux. So koa needed to have a catheter put in. But he peed it out and they put a second one in and he peed that one out when he was in the procedure. They saw that he was fine in that department. But he was pretty fussy today. We kind of expected it though being he had the catheter put in twice. Koa is still eating good but isn't gaining weigh so they upped his calories again to 26. So we are hoping that he will gain some weight. I asked them if he could just get more volume and they said that they aren't doing that because they don't want him to have the fluid because of his lung history.
thank you everyone for your prayers and support.

Koa is doing good considering.

Well this morning Koa took his whole bottle. I was so happy. Then he slept most of the morning. This afternoon we found out what the infection was in the blood. It is calspiella ( not to sure how to spell). Then about two hours later we found out that Koa also has a infection in his urine. But not to sure if it is the same as in the blood. But more than likely.
They discontinued the Vanco antibiotics. They are so far just keeping Koa on the Gent.
Koa does not even look sick or act sick. Today he was up for 5 hours wanting to play wide awake. Just sitting on my lap looking around. I don't think anybody has told him that he is sick.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for giving Koa the ability to fight theses infections.

Koa is doing good for what he went through today.

Well this morning I went and fed Koa early. He had 40 out of 60cc. He threw up everything I think. Then I put him to sleep. He slept for awhile.
This afternoon his blood culture came back from his broviac saying that there is an infection. But they don't know what kind of bacteria yet. They have to wait to let it grow at the lab. So hopefully tomorrow we will know.
When they found out the Doctor got a hold of the surgeon that puts in the broviac. The surgeon pulled it out as soon as they knew there was an infection. So they gave Koa morphine to help with the pain when they pull the broviac.
Well then a few hours later the blood culture came back from his hand. And it had grown the same thing as the broviac. So they are keeping Koa on anitbiotics for a while maybe 7 to 10 days.
Well other than that Koa is sleeping and keeping us busy.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for giving us Koa and watching over him.

Please pray for Koa.

On Saturday Koa got his shots. And he was running a temp in the evenings. Well they didn't go away yet. So tonight he got one and I told everyone that I think something is wrong. Everyone told me that his temp is from the shots. I didn't think so. So tonight I got the NNP and told her that I think something is wrong. So they did a CBC. Sure enough his white blood cell count was low and his platelets are low. And a few other things are. He isn't acting different. He just has a temp. He is eating a lot from his bottle. So tonight as I write this they are getting two different blood cultures and a spinal tap and a urine sample. So hopefully by tomorrow night or the next night we will find out what is going on.
Please keep Koa in your prayers.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for giving us Koa.

Koa is doing good.

Sunday, July 16, 2006

Koa is doing good. He is still improving on his feedings by mouth.
He has been losing some weight. They are talking about upping his calories. He is not dumping. He is doing good with that part. They think he is loosing weight because of him working so hard to eat out of a bottle. So it will get fixed.
All of the nurses fight over who gets Koa or not.
But other than that Koa is doing good.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for giving Koa the strength to get through all of this.

Koa is having a good day

Koa spent most of the day sleeping and when he wasn't sleeping he was either eating or checking out what was going on around him. The doctors decreased the oxygen flow from 1.5 to .3 litters per hour and his oxygen % from 30% to 100% this will get him ready for HOME. Because the oxygen concentrator the Koa will be coming home with you cant change the oxygen percentage but we can change the flow. We haven't been told what the settings should be before we can go home. We have been told that right now in order to come home Koa needs to start taking all of his feeds by bottle. He isn't doing bad at eating from a bottle. He just isn't very consistent some times he does great and other times he doesn't do very good at eating at all. I think that it is because he hasn't quite figured out how to suck the right way.
Koa was able to meet his aunt Shelby woo. It was kind of a indirect meeting because she isn't aloud to come into the NICU because of her age. So they saw each other through the windows in doors that are at the end of the hall Koa's room is on.
Thank you all for your prayers and support.
Thank you God for watching over Koa and Guiding the nurses and doctors in his care.

Koa is doing good with the bottle feedings.

This morning I went over to feed Koa early. He took half of 20ml. And then this afternoon he took half also.
Today the GI Doctor came by and said that Koa can bottle all of his feeds. And that they are trying to get Koa to be able to handle his feeds with in 30 minutes every three hours. But they said it might take a while. But that's okay with us.
Tonight Koa took 18ml's out of 60ml's. I was so happy.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for watching over Koa, Jeremiah and I.

Koa is eating on the bottle

Yep Koa started on bottle feeds and is still fed with a tube that goes to his tummy. He seems to be doing good with the feeds other than tonight he puked up on me. And let me tell you what that wasn't just a little puke it was huge I had never seen that much puke come from a baby in my life. So I was told now I'm a "real dad" I have got the 3 P's Peed on, Pooped on, Puked on. But it wasn't to bad other than that the formula is predigested so that he is able to digest it better. Koa's lungs are doing a little better he has been on the nasal canula all day and if he is sleeping really sound he is at room air. Most of the time he is between 30 and 40 %.
Last night Koa was playing with one of the nurses on a mat and took a toy block and put it in his mouth. He is tracking and recognizing voices really good. And is really liking his swing.
Koa's bottom is doing a lot better and he is a lot less fussy now. And he really likes to suck on his pacifier and have his back patted.
Thank you all for your prayers and support.
Thank you God for watching over Koa and for answering our prayers.

He seems to be sleeping a lot better too.
They are talking about switching to a regular formula milk. Instead of the pregestamill.
Koa's chest x-ray looked a lot better today than a couple of days ago. I was very happy.
His diaper rash is getting better.

Koa is cute as ever.

Today Jeremiah was able to hold Koa when Koa was on the nasal canula. Koa fell asleep. It was very cute. Then we gave Koa a sit bath for his butt. The nurse was holding him up and I was watching all the wires and Jeremiah was rubbing his legs and toes. Koa almost went to sleep. Then all of the sudden we noticed that he pooped in the bath.
Koa is doing pretty good. His diaper rash is doing a lot better. Koa loves his swing.
This evening I was holding Koa on my lap. He was wide a wake, he was so alert. I read him his bedtime story and then I put him back to bed.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for everything that you have done for Koa.

Pictures of Koa in his fancy new swing

Saturday, July 01, 2006

Koa is doing okay!

Today Koa is doing good. Jeremiah and I were able to hold him today. He can lift up his head and move it side to side he is getting so strong(like his papas). Also he is alert looking and around its cool. Koa was able to sit in his new swing he seemed to think that it was cool.
Tonight Koa was a little fussy and it seemed like nothing was calming him down. So he fussed for three hours until he got tired and then he went to sleep with some love from Jeremiah and I. And Koa is still doing good tonight. So we will try to get some sleep. We think that he is fussy because bottom is raw from a bad diaper rash that is getting better with this butt cream.
There is no changes today.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for Koa!
