Koa got off the vent late last night!

Yesterday he was doing really good. They upped his feedings almost to full feedings. He is doing good with that. All during the day they were turning down the vent settings to see how he would do. They got down so low that they had to pull the vent. He is doing AWESOME. His oxygen needs are at 38% to 44% on nasal canuall. We are so happy.
His surgery that is this coming Thursday he will have to be put on a vent for the surgery. But they are saying he wont be on it for very long. Maybe a few hours at the most.
Sorry for the late post. We were very sleepy.
Please keep Baby Isaac in your prayers. Thank you

Koa is doing good. They upped the feeds again today. He seems to be doing really good with all the feedings. They are talking about taking him off the vent tomorrow. They have been changing they vent settings a lot today. They are really impressed with how much Koa has progressed in the last few days. They asked me what I thought I told them if he is ready do it. But if theres a question about it dont. they said they would only do it if he is ready.
other than that he has been sleeping a lot.
Baby Isaac and Koa have been in tne NICU for about the same time. Baby Isaac is a week older than Koa. But 2 weeks further a long when he was born. Him and Koa have been through almost the same surgerys and stuff. His parents have been there for Jeremiah and I. And we have been there for his parents. Please keep him in your prayers.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers, love and support.
Thank you God for giving us Koa.

Koa is doing good. I was holding him today and he was facing the wall he turned his head almost facing me. I was so scared that he was going the pull the vent tube out. So we helped him move his head and he was happy.
This afternoon i went to change his diaper and he decided to go pee everywhere.
No big changes with him today.
Please keep baby isaac in your prayers. Thank you!

Koa is keeping the nurses on there toes.

Today I was able to hold Koa for a little while. Until my arm went num. When I was holding him I could hear his tummy rumbling. So I put him back to bed and changed his diaper. I noticed that he has a bad rash. I feel so bad. But it didn't seem to bother him when I was putting stuff on it. After I dressed him up he was full of gas. It was like a machine gun going off It was funny.
This evening after dinner I went to see Koa. I noticed there was a lot of people at his bedside. I walk in and saw that he was getting a new tube put in. I was like okay moms not watching. I was waiting in the hall way when the doctor walked out he said that Koa coughed up a big mucus plug or the tube got moved and he was having problems. So they decided to change the tube. Once he got settled down I read him a bedtime story and he fell asleep. I was patting his butt and his Oxygen needs went down from 60 to 48% within 15 mins. They did a chest x-ray to see how the tube was positioned. It was good and the Doctor said that his lungs looked good. A lot better than a week and a half ago. I was happy. Other than that they upped his feeds to full strength pregestamil, and 6cc an hour.
Please keep Isaac in your prayers. Thank you.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for helping Koa tonight and giving us Koa.

Koa is gained some weight

Koa is doing good. He is at 6cc per hour and seems to be handling it good. He is still filing his diapers for the nurses and us. The Doctors are saying that they might weight until after Koa has the hernia surgery on July 6th to take him off of the ventilator so that they don't have to take him off of it twice.
We would like to ask every one to pray for Koa's little NICU friend Isaac O. and his parents.
Thank you all for your prayers and support.
thank you God for looking over Koa and keeping him safe.

Koa had a good day

So Koa seemed to be happier today. The doctors increased his feedings to 3 cc per hour and the plan is to increase his feeding by 1cc every 12 hours until he is to 6cc per hour. This lungs seem to be doing better because he is having less and less stuff coming out when they suction him. I was able to hold him tonight and he was sleeping really sound. Koa is still on the ventilator but his oxygen needs are coming down. Koa likes to look around and see what is going on in his little room.
Thank you for your prayers and support.

Koas new pics

Koa is doing good today.

Koa slept most of the day today. His oxygen needs were down to about 50% so he is doing a little better. And Courtnie got to hold him for about an hour and a half. Last night they thought that he might be having another bug growing in his lungs so they put him back on the antibiotics. We will put some new pictures on tonight when we get back from reading Koa his night time story and telling him his prayers.
Thanks again for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for answering prayers and for helping us through every thing so far.

Koa had an ok day

Koa is needing a little more oxygen today. The doctors think that it is because he hasn't be getting held very much because he is on the ventilator. But other than that Koa is doing good. He has some gas and is pooping good. Courtnie got to change her first and second poopy diaper today. I was able to hold him tonight for about an hour. When I held him he was really relaxed and his oxygen needs went from 70% to 54% so we think that he liked it. That and it got the stuff in his lungs moved around so they could suction it out. He is getting so big it is cool. He weighed about 6 pounds and 13 ounces and doesn't look like he is holding much water again. Koa slept most of the day.
Thank you all for your prayers and support.

Koa is doing good!

This morning Koa was a little fussy. So they put him on some medicine that will relax him. About 45 mins afterwards he was so relaxed. I felt better seeing him relaxed instead of fighting everything. He still moves and gets upset but it not as much. Koa looks so good.
He seems to be doing good with all of the feedings. He is still pooping and farting. We call him King Koa Beano....
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for guiding the doctors and nurse that look after him.

He is doing pretty good.

Koa is getting fed.

This afternoon they started Koa on Pediealite. He is getting 1cc an hour. He is pooping, and he is pretty gassy. He is still on the vent. He is doing a little better with it.
He gained some more weight today.
This evening they had to give Koa a blood transfusion. Koa is so funny. We have to put his hands down and then wrap him up like a burrito. Some how he gets the hand out that likes to hang on to the vent tube. So he gets in trouble.
Today they did a test on the chest mucus and it came back positive with Bacteria. So they put Koa on antibiotics. I talked to the Doctor, he believes that Koa might not have an infection. Because all of the blood work has come back good. So we will know more tomorrow or the next day.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for Koa. Please watch over him.

Koa had to go back on the ventilator...

This morning around 11am Koa had to go back on the ventilator. He was working really hard. Now he seems to be doing better. But he still is fighting it. So we hope we can hold him off until Thursday. Then he can go on the c-pap. We will see.
They haven't started the feedings yet. They are waiting to see what happens with the vent.
Koa lost a little weight. Which is really good. He gained 1lb of water weight. So hopefully that will start coming off.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for helping Koa do is best off the vent.

Koa is growing!

This morning I received a phone call at 5:15am. Koa's nurse called me and said that they are going to take him off the ventilator in 10 minutes. I said I will be right there. So I went over there. Koa is doing okay with it. But he might have to go back on the ventilator. Maybe.
Today he pretty much just slept. I think that he was so tired fighting the vent. When they took him off he just slept.
Koa didn't poop today. He was pretty gassy. I think tomorrow he is going to get feed. Pedealite. Which is better than nothing. Hopefully in a week or so we can get him on bottles.
Thank you everyone for all prayers and support.
Thank you God for helping Koa today.

Koa weighs 6lb 8oz!(water weight)

Koa is doing good. Today his was having a little problem with the ventilator tube. He just wasn't getting comfortable. So they are talking about taking him off. But the only thing is that he cant go to c-pap cause it puts to much pressure on his intestines. He would have to go straight to the nasal canal. Which I feel he is ready for. But they might not do it until Sunday. Its still up in the air.
Koa is still pooping, not as much. The surgeon said he wasn't to wait a couple more days before feeding him again. I feel the same way. Just to make sure that everything is good.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for Koa.

Koa POOPED!

Today when we went in to see Koa. The nurse handed Jeremiah a diaper. He opened it. There was poop. We were so happy. I never thought we would be so happy about poop. But we were. We took a picture. But I will be nice and not post it. It was pretty stinky.
Koa is doing good. He is pretty fussy today. It could be that he is trying to poop. Or they think it is from the decrease of morphine. He is requiring a little more oxygen today. But that's okay.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for helping Koa poop.

Koa is doing a little better

Koa weighed in tonight at almost 6 pounds 4 ounces. We think that it is mostly water weight. Hopefully in the next day or two he will poop. When he does they will take the suction tube out of his nose that goes to his tummy. They have reduced the pressure settings on the ventilator and reduced his morphine. They set the date to have his hernias fixed on July sixth. He slept most of the day today. Here are some new pictures of the little guy

Koa weighs 5lb 15oz! (mostly water weight)

Koa seems to be doing a lot better. His oxygen requirements are at 37. All day. They were able to go down on the vent settings. Also they were able to put Koa on his tummy. He was a very happy boy. His oxygen requirements were in the 20's until they moved him back on his back.
Other than that he seems to be happy. He really wants all the tubes out of mouth and nose.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for helping Koa get better.

Koa is doing about the same

Koa seemed to be doing good. He just doesn't have any reserve so when he has a fit his stats drop and takes some time to come back up. They turned up the pressures on the ventilator so that he couldn't fight it so much and allowed them to decrease his oxygen needs. He slept most of the day he still doesn't like people talking in his room. Other than that he is doing good and is improving.
Thank you all for your prayer and support.

Koa had a rough night

This morning about 4am the surgery started to catch up with him. The doctors and nurses said that the fluid that has built up from the surgery went to his lungs. So when it does it makes it really hard for Koa's lungs to absorb oxygen. Right now he is between 60 and 80 percent oxygen on the ventilator. They started him on a medicine to make him pee so that the extra water he is holding will go away so we should start seeing an improvement in the next couple of days. Other than this he seems to be doing good. Just sleeping and healing. It seems like all things considered Koa has done very well with this surgery he has retained a lot less water than expected.
Thanks for all of the prayers and support.
Thank God for watching over Koa and healing him.

Koa is doing good.

Koa is just sleeping. He doesn't like much noise. Or when they mess with him to change his diaper. He is requiring a little more Oxygen. He has been pretty gassy today.

Koa was hurting a little today but it got fixed quick

Today Koa was a lot fussy. Not cause he was mad or sad but because he was hurting. But I don't blame him I would hurt too if I had gone through what he went through. But the doctors upped his morphine and he settled down and went to sleep waking up every once and awhile to look around and see if Courtnie and I were still in the room. So tonight he was sleeping and woke up and smiled when I said hi to him so I think he is feeling a lot better. Loud people talking still sets him off. He weighed in at almost 5 pounds and 13 ounces I think that he may be retaining some water from having the surgery. Koa is still on the ventilator but has tried to take his own tube out a couple of times. So they tied his hands down. Other than that he is doing good.
We thank God for giving us Koa and all of our friends and family and for the doctors and nurses and for comforting Koa and guiding us and the doctors in his care.
Thanks again for all of the love, support and prayers.
We love all of you and thanks again.

God has answered another prayer!

Surgery went good! This morning they took Koa to the OR early. Jeremiah was able to go with Koa down to the OR. He said Koa was smiling. Jeremiah came back and waited with me and our family. The surgery took about 2 hours. The Doctor came and said everything went well. He didn't do the hernia's in this surgery after the Doctor reconnected and made sure there wasn't anything else. He also took out his appendices. If he didn't, later in life Koa might have a problem with that. He said it would be a big surgery. After that he was going to do the hernia's but Koa's body temp went down a little.
After the surgery they told us that Koa might not move and open his eyes or anything cause he is on Morphine. Jeremiah and I talked to him and his eyes opened and he liked it when Jeremiah was holding his feet. If Jeremiah let go, Koa was not very happy.
Koa is back on the vent. They are not to sure when he will get off. They said probably in a week or so they will start the feeding at very slow, and work them up slowly.
Tonight we noticed that Koa didn't like when people would talk around him or even mess with him.
Pretty much everything is looking good.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers, love, and support.
Thank you God for helping Koa get through this day.

Koa weighs 5lb 4 oz!

Surgery is on Thursaday. Koa's white blood cell count came up to 2,000. Which is really good. The doctor is happy.
This morning when I went in to see Koa he had the feeding tube around his fingers. It was cute. But we caught it in time.
Tonight we gave him a bottle. He took 7cc out of 15cc I was very happy with him.
Other than that everything is looking good.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for watching over Koa, and guiding the Doctors.

Koa is doing good.

Today Koa's white blood cell count was up a little from Saturday. Which is good.
Also there is no infection at all. All the blood work came back NEGATIVE. Which we kinda knew it wasn't gonna be positive cause he wasn't looking or acting any different.
Well the other day Koa pooped in his diaper again. The nurse saved it for me. I took a picture. So this morning I left the pictures for surgeon. He asked the nurse if it came out of his butt. She said yes I was here for the latest one. He was very impressed.
Hopefully tomorrow is when we will find out if Koa is having the surgery on Thursday or not.
Tonight Koa was really fussy again. I tried giving him his pacifier that didn't work I changed his diaper that didn't work. I tried cuddling with him that didn't work. So finally I put him on my shoulder and he went straight to sleep. With one hand holding my shirt. Then the other hand holding my hair. He wouldn't let go until he was really asleep. It was cute.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for watching over Koa.

No surgery on Tuesday!

The surgeon rescheduled the surgery for Thursday he wants Koa's white blood cell count up. He said if Koa isn't ready on Thursday it will be the following Tuesday.
We believe that it is God's way of postponing the surgery. It is in God's hands. When Koa is ready is when they will do the surgery.
Thank you everyone for all prayers and support.
Thank you God for giving us Koa.

Today Jeremiah and Koa had father son time. I went to a baby shower for one of the moms in the NICU. Jeremiah and Koa had fun from my understanding.
This morning they did some blood work on Koa to see how everything is. His white blood cell count was down. They think that it is caused from either the medicine that helps his red bloods cells go up. Or he may have another infection. Koa doesn't look or act any different to us. They are going to repeat the blood work in the morning again. So we will see.
Other than that he is doing good. Telling us when he wants his pacifier or when he needs a little attention.
This afternoon they put Koa in his bounce chair for 4 hours today. He fell asleep in it.
Tonight Jeremiah and I cuddled with Koa and talked and read him his bed time story. He seemed to love it.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.
Thank you God for giving us Koa.
